Before I created Magpie Mischief, I began learning how to decorate my own home with unique artwork. Trying to make a cozy and creative atmosphere for my family that was uniquely our own.

Then one day I began searching for the perfect spoon rest. Surprisingly it was difficult to find spoon rests that are both modern and unique. The spoon rests that I found were either too simple and mass produced, the wrong size or from a bygone century that just didn’t fit in my home. 

Around that time, my great-aunt (an amazing potter herself) sent me her kiln and I realized that I could begin designing my very own pottery of my dreams.

I was concerned that I wouldn’t have enough time or energy to create my own designs.

But then…

I began carving out a little time each day to either learn more about pottery or practice on the potter’s wheel (making quite a few wasted mud balls along the way).

And I discovered my style: pottery that is warm, inviting, and that settles beautifully into your home.

It turns out…

The road was more difficult than I imagined.

I became pregnant with my second child. This was extremely high risk pregnancy because my son and I survived HELLP syndrome during my first pregnancy. He was born at 2 1/2 pounds and I was terrified of making any missteps during this new pregnancy.

I pushed forward…

with pottery and found a great deal of the stress and anxiety I felt were relieved by the act of creating.

When I did have my daughter, everything was perfect, but I wondered again how I could possibly still create while continuing to teach and raise my toddler and newborn. Luckily she was a great sleeper and my son loves to play outside while I create my pottery.

Through it all…

I released my first products and the response has been amazing. I have worked with some of the greatest customers to make functional works of art that are uniquely their own.
